Tax increase proposed by board of Neosho-Newton County Library

The board of the Neosho-Newton County Library has decided to place a 15-cent levy increase on a special election ballot in June. The proceeds would be used to pay for a $7 million expansion of the library’s Neosho quarters through a lease-purchase approach to financing. The 15 cents would represent a 150 percent increase from the library’s current 10-cent operating levy.

Virgil Carter Skinner, 86, of Sherwood, died Friday, February 17, 2012. He was born in Hope on June 6, 1926, to Sid and Zannie Mae Skinner. He was a WWII veteran and retired from the Missouri/Union Pacific Railroad in North Little Rock, after 39 years as a locomotive engineer.
